Getting Started
So you've started playing Runescape and your wondering how to train the free-to-play and membership skill: Woodcutting, or your an experienced player who's looking to train this skill to earn money and of course get the awesome looking skillcape! Follow this guide and you'll be on your way in no time, but first you need to have 3 IMPORTANT things before you begin your woodcutting career.
- Patience (Woodcutting involves sitting in once spot and clicking on trees over and over, so you must have the patience to be able to do that)
- Time (Woodcutting is one of the fastest skills to train but it still takes alot of time, the more time you have the faster you'll get to 99)
- Determination (Alot of people set off to train and skill and become bored and leave the skill, you need to have determination in order to keep on training)
So if you have all those then this guide is right for you! Read on and happy skilling!
Level 1-15
- Equipment
For woodcutting your going to be running a lot, and the less kg you weigh in Runescape; the less energy points you waste while running (If you are a member; a high agility level also adds to this factor) So its best to wear nothing to light clothing (Robes, etc.)
- Members Equipment
Optional:
Boots of lightness; obtained from The Temple of Ikov quest it reduces your weigh by 4.5 k/g while equipped
Spottier Cape: Requires 66 Hunter and can be purchased from the Grand Exchange and it also reduces your weight by 4.5 k/g while equiped
Undetailed optional items: Agile top/bottom, Spotted Cape, Penance Gloves
- Hatchet
At level one your going to want to start out with a Bronze hatchet or an Iron Hatchet which can both be bought from surrounding players and at the Grand Exchange or your can buy them from Bob's Brilliant Axes in Lumbridge which is REALLY convenient. Look up at the map and head over to the yellow circle (Bob's Axes) and he will give you 1 Bronze Hatchet for free otherwise they cost 16 gold each, If you have the money buy the Iron (56gp) and Steel Hatchets (200gp) for faster cutting.
- Tree/Location
From levels 1-15 you will be cutting normal trees in the red circled area on the map above until your inventory is filled with normal logs, now you have the choice to either burn them with a tinderbox (Obtained by the Storekeeper in the blue circled area) or you can sell them to the Storekeeper in the blue circled area and make some gp OR you can bank them on the top floor of the Lumbridge castle (Purple circled area) I recommend burning/selling the logs you obtain from 1-15.
Level 15-30
- Hatchet
Now that you are level 15 your going to need a better hatchet to cut the next set of trees faster. I suggest you buy a Steel hatchet and at level 21 you go ahead an buy a Mithril hatchet (grand exchange).
- Tree/Location
Once you are level 15 you can now cut down Oak Trees;Congratulations. With your steel/mithril hatchet go to where you were cutting trees from levels 1-15 and look around and mouse over the different trees you see until you come across one labeled Oak tree, these are the trees that you will be cutting all the way until level 30. Like before once you have a full inventory go ahead and sell/bank/burn them to your liking.
Level 30-45/99
- Hatchet
Keep on using your Mithril Hatchet until level 41, then upgrade to a Rune Hatchet (Used till level 99 for free-to-play players) (Used till level 61 for members depending on cash stack).
- Tree/Location
At level 30 you can now cut down Willow trees in Draynor village, which is only a short walk/run from Lumbridge castle. For free-to-play players you better get used to being in this spot because you will be cutting willow trees all the way till level 99 unless your going to go the money route.
- Members
For Members your going to want to cut down these willow trees from 30 to 45. Upgrading your hatchet to a Rune one at level 41.
- Routine
Start cutting willows in the green circled area in the picture to the right, once you have a full inventory follow the red line and bank your logs, i suggest cutting and banking for members and free-to-play players and just burning/selling them later. Rinse and repeat.
- Free-to-play (Money Route)
So your woodcutting for money im guessing? This is the best money making method for free-to-play players. Get about 70 woodcutting to cut Yew trees (60 required but slow cutting until around 70) and make sure you have a Rune Hatchet or cutting yews will take a very long time and make it 10x more boring. Your going to want to go to Edgeville or behind Varrock castle, theres bank nearby both of these locations and you should by now know how to use your map to find banks. Cut and Bank. Rinse and Repeat and once you have the amount of logs you want to sell, go to the Grand Exchange and sell them!
Level 45-70 (Members)
- Hatchet
Your going to want to use your Rune Hatchet untill level 61 then your going to want to buy a Dragon Hatchet which is about 1 million gp, or you can ask a friend to lend you one for 24 hours at a time.
- Tree/Location
Your level 45, now its time to cut Maple Trees in Seers Village (The black circles on the map to the right and bank at the pink circle) Cut these till level 70. Cut and Bank. In my opinion Willow logs are faster.
Level 70-99 (Members)
- Hatchet
Dragon Hatchet is a must by now, Rune hatchet is just to slow for cutting the next tree. I suggest cutting Yew Logs and selling them to make money to buy a Dragon Hatchet from the Grand Exchange.
- Tree/Location
Ivy: The good thing about ivy is, You never need to bank except when your inventory is filled with birds nest that drop randomly when you woodcut. (Pick those up they are worth some cash, explained later down in guide) When you cut ivy you do not obtain any branches or logs or anything, just raw xp!
Castle Wars: You need to teleport to Castle Wars with a Games Necklace and your going to want to go to the far east white wall, look along the side of it and you will see branches covering the wall. These are what your going to be cutting till 99. Just like any tree just click and your off! Remember to Grab those nests and Good luck to 99! Shouldnt be to long from here on.
Extra Information
- Bird Nests
Obtained randomly while woodcutting, they appear on the ground... Make sure to always pick these up for these reasons
Jewelry: Inside the nests you can find rings that you can sell and make some extra Mulah.
Seeds: You can also get seeds that are worth anywhere from 2gp to 100k.
- Crushed bird nests
Once you have bird nests make sure you empty them and go to the Grand Exchange and buy a pestle and mortar, use the pestle and mortar on the bird nests to get crushed bird nests which sell for around 1k (Prices vary) and they sell instantly due to the requirement for herblore.
- Skillcape
Once you have reached 99 woodcutting, Congratulations. You must now have atleast 100k gp in your inventory and you need a teleport to falador. Go north and talk to the man standing around the trees with a woodcutting cape on. Ask him for a cape and he'll charge you 99k. Buy it and wear it with pride!
